Students and staff members at Rochester Public Schools wore denim to school Wednesday as the district celebrated the third day of Tri-City Career Spirit Week, a first-time event focusing on the value of Career Technical Education at all grade levels.
The denim was a reflection of the day’s theme You Are a “Jean”ius, with announcements and activities focused on students learning to appreciate their individual intelligence, talents and positive traits.
Each day this week will have a different theme and will begin with announcements focused on Career Technical Education, as well as age-appropriate activities and exercises to follow.
Students and staff are reminded to wear their best, or craziest hat, on Thursday. The theme of the day is Hats Off. Announcements and activities on Thursday will focus on available career paths and types of careers that students can pursue, and on the hats worn by workers in various fields such as firefighters, police, nurses and construction workers.
Rochester Mayor Paul Callaghan has declared this week Career Technical Education Week in the City of Rochester in recognition of the value that CTE holds for all grade levels and the entire community.
The week-long focus on Career Technical Education is being conducted in conjunction with neighboring school districts in Dover and Somersworth, and is part of Rochester Public School’s move to begin introducing students to Career Technical Education at all grade levels, instead of in just middle school and high school.
