As many children mark the halfway point through the school year with “Half Way Day” or “100th Day” math celebrations, schools across the area start to look at budget adjustments to help stretch supplies, materials, and programs for classrooms to make it to June.
With the help from Hilltop Chevrolet, Rochester’s local Chevrolet dealer, those budget decisions are a little less stressful for both the School Street and Nancy Loud Elementary Schools.
Through the adopt a school program sponsored by Hilltop Chevrolet, the two Rochester schools were chosen to receive the very timely donation of $1,000 for each school. The program is spearheaded by Kylie Goodwin, Dealer Principal and Ron Currier, Owner.
“We are pleased to help give back to our community in these uncertain times,” said Goodwin. “Supporting schools is part of a strong community.”
School Street School Principal Sarah Howard, and Nancy Loud School Principal Sue Bacwezski were thrilled when the news broke.
“This donation comes at a great time for our students,” said Howard.
“We are excited to work with the parents and staff to put this to work for the children,” said Baczewski.
Both School Street and Nancy Loud Schools are two of the smallest elementary schools in Rochester, and both have a high degree of need. Both are designated Title 1 schools by the City and State due to the fact that over 40% of the school populations qualify for free or reduced lunch rates.
“We are grateful for the support of Hilltop Chevrolet, which has provided a real boost to two of our schools that could use the support,” said Superintendent Kyle Repucci. “On behalf of students, staff and the Rochester Public Schools community, thank you.”
